Perle works exclusively with founders of early stage growth businesses. We help you optimise every aspect of your business to create Business Fitness – a resilient framework to support, sustain and power your growth journey.
From assessing and understanding risk, and devising a strategy for growth, to ensuring access to the right finance at the right time and price, our approach is always bespoke. The unique strength of BusinessFitness lies in the emphasis it places on ensuring that all elements of your business are in sync – that operations, sales and marketing, and finance work together, aligned in purpose and action. And that you, as the founder, get to play to your strengths, confident in the knowledge that everything else is taken care of.
We’re as committed as you are to helping you succeed. We’re not arms-length consultants who draw up reports telling you what to do or coaches who stay well back from the day-to-day. We work collaboratively, right by your side, where you can benefit most from our 30-plus years’ experience of implementing all the steps you need to take to help you grow.
Business Fitness (#bizfit):
When your business creates and maintains Business Fitness:
- You know exactly where you’re going. We work with you to build an enterprise-level plan covering strategy, financials and risk
- You have all the information that can help get you there – layers of data that everyone, from the customer-facing team to those in the boardroom, can use to build motivation, momentum and growth
- You have the resources to get there, i.e. access to the cash and funding streams you need to deliver your plan
- And the right people in your organisation, playing to their strengths and pulling together to make it all happen.
Why do you need Business Fitness?
Because, of the half a million or so start-ups established each year, 20% fail in their first year, with 60% hitting the skids within their first three years.
Although a lack of market and/or issues with the product or service itself are the leading factors, the majority of reasons why early stage businesses run out of steam come down to fault lines in the organisation itself, from running out of cash, to not having the right people.
Having a framework of structures, systems, processes and people working in sync towards achieving your goals is crucial if you want to survive, achieve and maintain growth. Business Fitness is achieved when operations, sales and marketing, and finance work together, and every action within the business plays its part, contributing towards clearly defined strategic goals.
The benefits of having your very own Finance Director
When you work with Perle, you’ll enjoy the benefits of having a highly experienced Finance Director – a trusted advisor who can manage and develop relationships with other stakeholders including directors, investors, banks and accountants, to name but a few.
“Andrew slotted into the senior management team seamlessly. Even though he wasn’t working for us exclusively it felt like we were benefitting from having an additional member of staff. He initially came on board to assist with an investment round but has remained as a trusted advisor on business growth and financial planning. His help is invaluable.”
John Hall Co-Founder & Head Distiller, Trevethan Gin
Jamie Murphy, Managing Director, Linked Solutions Ltd:
“In early 2021 I became aware that the operators of the dry dock facility in Penzance were planning on closing down the dock. With family connections to this historically significant dock (opened in 1834, it was one of the first of its kind in Europe) and my own marine engineering background, I realised I could be in a position to do something to keep the dock running, although I was also aware I would need significant help to make it happen.
Andrew Tapson came highly recommended from someone in my professional network. Upon being appointed, Andrew devised, negotiated and executed an acquisition strategy that, in July 2021, resulted in the successful transfer of the remaining operations at the facility, a new long term commercial lease and a significant funding line. The dry dock and the 10 jobs it supported was saved from closure, creating an opportunity to re-establish Penzance as a marine engineering centre of excellence.
It’s no understatement to say that this deal would not have been completed without Andrew’s input. His knowledge and experience of corporate acquisitions, and commitment to working with the various parties and their legal teams ensured that a successful outcome was achieved."
Trevethan Gin approached Perle for help with raising the funding required to meet growth aspirations in the medium term (5 years). At that time the business was being led by an operationally-focused founder with external support from accountants and a sales specialist. By the team’s own admission, there was little routine reporting and decision-making was ad hoc.
Andrew created the conditions for Organisational Fitness, crucial for attracting investment and ensuring best use of the funds, putting together:
As a result of becoming organisationally fit, Trevethan is now investment-ready, equipped with much-needed clarity and ongoing access to meaningful data to maintain its growth trajectory. The reporting structures and board meetings are now an established way of being able to spot opportunities and meet challenges before they become problems.
